  1. Hello Paul – we were in contact over seven years ago (apologies for the delayed response). My Father worked with and was a good friend of Frank’s. I had met Frank on several occasions. My father passed away a couple years ago and I have photos and other documents you may be interested in. I also have two of Frank’s books I’m intending to read. I do have your yahoo email from seven years ago – I’d rather communicate via email. Let me know if that email is still active. I am busy but would like to see things properly concluded. I promise I’ll respond before 7 years. I am using a disposable email for this website – not sure if you get access to it but please respond.

  2. I have photos that include Frank Brenton during the time he was in Chicago, working with Ralph Freese of the Chicagoland Canoe Base and the Prairie State Canoeists. Would be happy to make duplicates for you if you’re interested. Could also add remembrances from me and my husband (who knew him better than I) if you want. He had many photographs/slides of his adventures; hopefully you have found those too. I saw some at a dinner party including one of corpses he found on the Dry Tortugas. I promptly fainted.

I am looking for a copy of his book “The voyage of the Sierra Sagrada; across the Atlantic in a canoe” as a gift for my husband. No luck yet but I thought perhaps there is reprint or one in the works. Can you help?

    1. Hi Judy

      Thanks for getting in touch.

Be great if you could post photos here… or mail me and I will post them.

I only have one copy of Sierra Segrada. A future project can be that I scan it to pdf and post it here.

I have some audio of Frank that will be posted by xmas here.

      Best wishes

  3. Hello Paul, I am very curious about the picture of Frank with the Quetzalcoatl head (on the “About” page), do you have any information about when and where it was taken?
See, it is a funny thing; the sculpture in that picture is unique to Mexico and maybe Guatemala. I don’t know if you ever got to meet your aunt Olive Booth (née Brenton), who lived a few minutes away from Adair Rd? Her son, Frank, after travelling the world as well, established himself in Mexico where my mother was born (your second removed cousin?). So my side of the family is now more Mexican than British, hence why I would love to know where this photo was taken and see if by any chance we might have happened to be in the same place, closing a little inter-generational space loop!
    Thank you!

  4. Hi Marion

Great that you got in touch.

The pic was found and posted by Jon Maleta. Jon was in contact with the Chicago Canoe centre and kindly got in touch many years ago after I had made efforts to trace Francis’s networks.

Anyway, I do not know anything about the picture. I do have some tapes and slides of Francis now that I will digitalise and get online here when I find time.

But watch this space… there will be some goodies up before xmas.

Take care. Great to find out I have Mexican relatives… and you have Swedish ones. I am not an expert on second and third cousins… but a connection is cool:) and we know of Frank, this brave and sociable man that seemed to love life and people… and he seemed to wake something in people too. Admiration and generosity.
